“You can go higher you know”. Gaby said. “This one’s for 90-year old ladies”. Recovering from the shock of an ageist, not to mention sexist comment I pushed a bit harder. It was my first time on the Peloton. I chose a deliberately short and easy class to get used to all the info on the big screen, listen to the trainer over the music, and keep up with the movements.
“Are you happy with the girl?” Said Gaby. “Would you do a guy?” I wondered if this was Peloton-speak? It could have sounded like tapes from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. But this is the world of Peloton with hundreds of trainers, classes and rides to choose from. Once I’d got used to it, I could understand why it’s become such a hit. I returned for a second short burst the next day.
These were my 8-week goals - I only have three weeks left and it’s not going as easily as I thought. I know I have to ramp up my efforts to get results in the 3 weeks left.

Chest - I didn’t gain or lose weight in my 12-months of shoulder op recovery. But there was a tectonic shift of body mass from the upper torso to the midriff. I am working to send it back and that seems to be happening.
Biceps - Luke tells me men are fixated on big biceps but the triceps round the back are a much bigger muscle and have a greater impact on the look of the upper arm. I’m focussing more on these too.
Waist - I don’t know if you get this, but there’s something on my hips that isn’t mine, and I can’t relate to, yet it doesn’t seem to want to go. It’s puzzling.
5k Run - My two short 20-minute Peloton classes and a few days rest seem to have given a boost to my running. Having struggled to get my speed up, I dropped over a minute from my run this morning, without much effort, which takes me over halfway towards my goal.
Body Fat % - I’m using smart body fat scales which blue-tooth into a Feelfit phone app giving data on weight, bone mass, muscle mass, body fat and separately – the visceral fat that we spoke about last week.

Those fuzzy white dots really spoil the look. But if it’s any consolation they’re even worse under the microscope. Split ends are the result of continual dehydration. The hair loses moisture so the protein structure becomes fragile and breaks down a little, then it cannot hold as much water, so...
