In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Abi

The Problems with Abi’s hair…

There was nothing obviously wrong with Abi’s haircut. It was just the same old plain and simple one length A-Line which made it look much thinner, drier, and to hang a bit ‘dog’. Excuse my mashing of the English language - Hangdog (hæŋdɔg) looking a bit sad and down. Not like Abi at all.

With a little more effort in the haircut and colour we achieved a much more versatile and vibrant look. Way, way thicker, healthier and easy to manage.

Abi feels so differently about her hair now that it has come alive, and it’s also easy and quick to adapt it to different styles.

1. Abi’s hair is naturally quite straight.
But the right haircut would encourage flexibility and movement.

2. The outline of the haircut was A-Line down to a longer front.
This encouraged the hair to hang straight, flat, forward and straggly.

3. The hair was one-length.
The lack of layering meant the ends would struggle to hold any movement.

This is what we did…

1. The Cut

We kept the length at the back but graduated to a shorter line at the front. Then we layered very slightly to remove the pyramid-width at the bottom and support the shorter lengths at the sides. This meant the whole haircut moved as one rather that the sides detaching from the back and everything drooping. It meant movement was now easy to create and likely to last much better.

2. The Colour

Abi had a lot of regrowth but also the colour had become flat and faded. Diana our Colourist, set to work restoring tone and contrast, skilfully weaving through some cool and warmer blonde lights. The effect adds to a brighter feel of movement and thickness with more depth and interest.

3. The Condition

We gave Abi a LifeSaver Prewash Treatment. Nothing injects moisture, elasticity and shine quite like this. Abi will now continue at home with this unique system of Healthcare for Hair®. Read… The Facts of LifeSaver®

4. The Styling

With a great cut, colour and better condition you get to choose from lots of style options. Here we took Abi through some easy styles in the space of five minutes.

So pleased with my new haircut and colour”Abi

For Abi's hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner. A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush (soft bristle) to smooth. Then a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the hair giving a little shine and texture too.

For a long time, the ‘Butterfly’ haircut reigned as the most requested style. But in 2025 and the early months of 2026, ‘Bobs’ took over, and we loved seeing Lily Collins, Ji-young Yoo and Kathy Bates embrace different versions of the trend. From French bobs to blunt cuts and box bobs, each of them wore the style beautifully.

Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?
Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?

June 11, 2026

Healthy hair is essentially 97% protein and 3% water. The protein provides the structural strength, the water gives flexibility and shine. Hair cannot be overloaded with protein but it can become so dehydrated with heat styling, colouring, and siliconised hair products that you end up losing the 3% water of fresh root hair, and then what is left of the shrunken hair towards the ends is 100% protein and too porous to hold moisture.
