In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Emma

Sometimes it’s hard to put your finger on the problem but you know it’s not right. Lank, lacklustre, lifeless, unresponsive and flat. Which it really shouldn’t be for Emma as she has great hair.

What was wrong with Emma’s hair?

Emma’s hair needed more connecting layers between the front and back to allow it to come alive and move more freely. The dry ends and lack of contrast in the colour were also contributing to a flat effect.

With a little more effort in the haircut and colour we achieved a much more versatile and vibrant look. Way, way thicker, healthier and easy to manage. Emma feels differently about her hair now that it’s come alive, and it’s also easy and quick to adapt into different styles.

This is what we did…

1. The Cut

Emma’s haircut was typical of the corrective work I do for new clients. We wanted to inject life and movement into the hair and for this we needed proper shaping followed by some cleverly placed colour to give a little intrigue and tonal depth to the whole effect.

Using our signature Diamond Dry Cut method, I kept the length at the back but graduated the outline to meet the long fringe at the front. Then layered very slightly to remove the pyramid width at the bottom and support the shorter layers at the sides. This meant the whole haircut moved as one rather that the sides detaching from the back and everything drooping. Movement was now easy to create and likely to last much better.

2. Colour

Diana used a combination of foils and balayage to bring richness and contrast to the colour creating a warm and bright textured effect. This dimensional colouring also helps enhance a sense of movement in the hair.

3. Condition

A key product for Emma’s hair was LifeSaver Prewash Treatment. This a not an oil-based treatment and you cannot overuse LifeSaver®. It feeds, hydrates and strengthens hair without weighing it down and gives vibrancy to all hair types. Used with Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner, the hair is nourished and protected. In fact, nothing we’ve come across keeps colour better than this trio of hero products.

4. Styling

Using a little Thicker Quicker and Volumising Mousse, Saori blowdried the hair smoother with body and a slight wave. Emma’s finished hairstyle moves and blends seamlessly and is simple for her to style at home in many different looks.

‘Thanks so much to Michael and the team for a wonderful haircut and colour! It was a fabulous experience and I couldn’t be happier with the result! It was great to be able to keep the length (that had grown so much due to all the 3mi products especially the pre-wash treatment!!) but get so much more movement and shape to my hair.

I could have watched Michael work all day-his care and attention to detail was amazing. My colour from the lovely Diana was the perfect complement! I’m sure I’m going to enjoy styling it in different ways and I have confidence that it will fall beautifully! I would visit every week if I could just to be so well pampered and with such skill!’ – Emma

Prep

For Emma's hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner

Styling

A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush to give body and style. Then finally a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the ends of the hair giving a little shine and texture too.

Occasionally I step out of my lane into savoury, though I doubt Greggs will be quaking with their 2.5 million sales a week. These freshly made sausage rolls with puff pastry and artisanal fillings make for a more delicious treat than mass produced and packaged versions.

I love using hair colour. And who wouldn’t benefit from hair colour in some form? Maybe Vin Diesel, and age-appropriate of course - I'm not recommending for babies or children. But whether a subtle whisper or full on drama...

Where were you standing when you decided to adjust your hair colour? Do you stand there often?

At the first salon I worked as a junior, back in the last century, the colourists at the salon had an interesting technique for showing clients their finished results; escorting them to the ladies toilet where a single electric wall light seemed to cast a favourable glow.
