In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Tara

I love long hair. But sometimes you can have too much of a good thing, and if it’s not cut properly it can drown the wearer and make shampoo-days a dreaded event.

Tara had gorgeous hair but the haircut had no shape. Just the usual square outline with a step hacked out four inches above the baseline. Absurd? Yes! But this is the go-to haircut for 95% of hairdressers nowadays. Why? Because it takes zero skill and ten minutes to do. Very sad for our industry.

Before: Clumsy square outline with a step hacked out. After: proper graduated layers and shape.

1. The Haircut

Tara's hair hung heavy and flat. Using our signature Diamond Dry Cut™ method, I took a graduated outline and sculpted face-framing layers through to the back. The long layers also give movement and lift. We wanted to keep the length, so less than 1cm came off the middle length at the back but importantly, we layered up from the base to eliminate the step and create a much better free-moving shape.

2. Condition

Tara's looked unnecessarily dry and frizzy. People think that’s all down to the condition, but a haphazard haircut will make hair look much frizzier. The new haircut alone with proper connected layers made the hair look instantly healthier. And then our deep hydration LifeSaver Treatment went to work.

A key product for Tara's hair is LifeSaver Treatment. This a not an oil-based treatment and you cannot overuse LifeSaver®. It feeds, hydrates and strengthens hair without weighing it down and gives vibrancy to all hair types.

3. Styling

LifeSaver UV Leave-in Styling Treatment is the best choice for styling Tara’s hair. Just apply, comb and go. This product eliminates frizz and defines the waves whilst protecting the hair from UV and heat damage. The Cashmere Protein Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner also helps soften the hair and give shine. A large round brush helped smooth the top layer for a more finished look.

The hair feels so nice and light following my cut, and when I leave my hair to dry naturally it still has style and compliments my natural wavy hair! It’s really easy and quick to do my hair each day now - which helps as a mum of two!“ - Tara

None of us know what’s going to take us out. Life’s full of surprises. But we do know that the body starts to degenerate from about age 30 (more cells destroyed than created, barring excess weight gain) and also, crucially, that we can affect the speed of that ageing process.

Introduced by Portuguese merchants in the 16th century, and adapted over time to suit Japanese tastes, this light bouncy sponge is considered a traditional Japanese speciality. More delicate and airy than a regular sponge cake, castella ( カステラkasutera) is famous for a fine and moist crumb.

Kids grow up fast enough as it is, in my humble opinion. So, I’ve never been fond of the American pageant ideal of getting ten-year-olds to look like Dolly Parton. But what style for a thirteen-year-old? It's a difficult age for girls, the 13-17 stage, as they mature quickly and...
