In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Kim

“It’s so flat and straight, and one side always flicks out. And can you get rid of the pink?” said Kim. I’ll walk you through why Kim struggled so much with her hair and what we did. The previous haircut conspired to keep Kim’s hair flat and the ends wayward. The hairdresser’s idea to undercut a great chunk away didn’t solve the problem when what’s needed is properly sculpted layers to lift and support.

Kim’s hair is naturally quite straight. That doesn’t mean it couldn’t bend with styling as the natural hair was quite flexible.

1. The hair hung one-length over a short undercut with shorter steps at the side.
The lack of layering meant the ends would struggle to hold a bend. The steps encouraged flatness and kinks.

2. The ends were extremely dry from overprocessed colour plus pink tint.
This made them brittle and inflexible, so harder to hold bend and body.

This is what we did…

1. Cut

We didn’t want to cut Kim’s hair as short as the existing undercut so I graduated the sides and layered the back a little, softening the tips with a steep point-cut up to two inches into the hair. This changed the fall and texture of the hair helping it to bend more easily. Kim’s hair can now move fluidly and fall effortlessly back into place. The haircut is the most important part of your hairstyle and should do most of the work. If it’s not cut well, you will work harder trying to make it right. The Diamond Dry Cut is my signature technique and a natural method of sculpting. We cut hair dry to see the shape evolve in much the same way as Michelangelo would approach a marble bust.

2. Condition

The original haircut was extremely dry at the ends from overprocessed colour and excessive heat styling. When hair becomes this dry and decayed its more difficult to manage and styles don’t last long. We gave Kim a LifeSaver Prewash Treatment. Nothing injects moisture, elasticity and shine quite like this. Kim will now continue at home with this unique system of Healthcare for Hair®. Read… The Facts of LifeSaver®

3. Colour

Diana our talented Colourist spent a few hours drawing out most of the pink colour, before getting to work with the new tones. Painting through a combination of warm and bright foiled lights gave a more natural and flattering result for Kim. This more fluid and textured effect enhanced the sense of movement.

4. Styling

With a great cut, colour and better condition you get to choose from lots of style options.

“Wow,wow, wow. Where do I start… from the minute I walked in the salon I knew I was in for a treat. The salon is simply beautiful which oozes sophistication and class. Michael and his team worked their magic and I left with my hair feeling dreamy and totally manageable. I’ve always struggled with my hair’s natural flicks and kinks, Michael explained it’s all about the cut. I’ve never experienced a colourist who is so thorough and eager to get such great results. My hair is no longer a chore and I now look forward to styling my hair. I’ve been wowed by the salon and can’t thank Michael and his team enough. Many thanks.” - Kimberley

Prep

For Kim's hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner

Styling

A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush (soft bristle) to smooth. Then a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the hair giving a little shine and texture too.
