In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Natasha

A common problem with home colouring is both overlapping and missing so much of the hair. Where overlapping tint builds up too much, the hair can turn to dead black. Not the dark brown Natasha was hoping for. It’s then a complex professional process to correct this.

1. The Haircut

I wanted to bring a vibrancy and gloss back into her hair that would be easy to wear in many different styles. Hair shouldn’t be hard work for you. Unfortunately, the harder you work a bad haircut the more you damage the hair and hence the harder you have to work it. It’s a vicious spiral down to thin broken frizzy hair, and it stops with a great haircut.

That’s what we do. Using our signature Diamond Dry Cut™ method, I took a stronger line above the shoulders then layered this to give life and movement. We kept the front long enough to push behind the ears.

2. The Colour

Jodie our Master Colourist did an amazing job of correcting the dead-black patches and creating a more natural variety of soft dark glossy browns. A common issue with home colouring is over processing the hair. Mainly caused by overlapping colour.

Each time you apply a colour it should be on the regrowth only. Colour on top of colour results in dense, darker colour and porous hair. An unnatural wig-like effect that’s also more vulnerable to further damage. This then needs professional colour correction.

3. The Condition

We gave Natasha a deep replenishing treatment that she can continue with at home. Nothing restores and maintains hair health quite like LifeSaver Pre-wash Treatment, as the thousands of testimonials from here to Australia verify.

4. The Styling

I wanted to show Natasha how versatile her new look was. Full, sleek, forward, back, edgy, sophisticated, done, undone. It’s even long enough to tie back in a pony!

“I've had the same mid length brown hair ranging from my shoulders to half way down my back for about 40 years! I was increasingly bored of it but during lockdown, I started colouring it at home and obviously didn't get it cut and it became extremely patchy in colour and dry at the ends. I ended up wearing it tied back in a bun the entire time and there was almost no point to having long hair at all.

I trusted Michael implicitly when he recommended quite a significant cut in terms of length as well as the ability of Michael's team to fix the issues I had created with patchy and over saturated colour. My first impression when I saw the end result was 'I finally look like someone who’s taken a hair decision!

I absolutely love my new cut and more natural colour and have had so many compliments. Michael showed me a number of different ways to style my hair and I’m loving working the new styles myself.” - Natasha

Prep

For Natasha's hair we used LifeSaver Pre-wash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner to help keep colour locked in.

Styling

A little Thicker Quicker blowdry gave texture and lift to the roots, then LifeSaver UV mixed with Volumising Mousse helped smooth the hair, give heat protection, body and control. We used the Large Round Brush (soft bristle) to smooth. Then finally a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the hair giving a little shine and texture too.

For a long time, the ‘Butterfly’ haircut reigned as the most requested style. But in 2025 and the early months of 2026, ‘Bobs’ took over, and we loved seeing Lily Collins, Ji-young Yoo and Kathy Bates embrace different versions of the trend. From French bobs to blunt cuts and box bobs, each of them wore the style beautifully.

Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?
Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?

Healthy hair is essentially 97% protein and 3% water. The protein provides the structural strength, the water gives flexibility and shine. Hair cannot be overloaded with protein but it can become so dehydrated with heat styling, colouring, and siliconised hair products that you end up losing the 3% water of fresh root hair, and then what is left of the shrunken hair towards the ends is 100% protein and too porous to hold moisture.
