Your Scalp Detox Routine

Root and Branch Renewal

One area that’s often overlooked and forgotten is scalp health. Like the skin elsewhere it can become clogged and dull. Even more so if an excess of harsh hair products are used. Often not designed for skin, these products seep down, build up and easily clog the hair follicles. Combined with poor diet and lack of exercise it can lead to some chronic scalp and hair conditions.

Scalp and hair health are a great indicator of overall wellness. Most people suffer occasional dry scalp or dandruff. Dandruff is usually linked to excess oiliness, and possibly a reaction to bacterial infection, lack of vitamins and minerals, or the body’s inflammatory reaction to too much yeast. Allowed to develop, poor scalp health can also lead to weaker thinner hair growth. Scalps need to breathe easy, free of the suffocating product build up, pollution, excess sebum, oils and dead skin.

Healthy Scalp Ritual
A weekly detox treatment is an essential part of a healthy scalp regime, and ensures your hair is growing strong, glossy and gorgeous. All our Van Clarke products were originally developed for professional use at the Michael Van Clarke salon.

Exfoliating Scalp Treatment is applied to the wet hair and massaged onto the scalp. Leave for 20 minutes and the natural fruit acids help lift away dead skin and build up.

Follow up with Exfoliating Scalp Shampoo at least twice a week. The plant extracts help clear flakiness and soothe scalp, stimulating blood flow and promoting cellular renewal. Its anti-dandruff, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties help strengthen hair and reduce hair loss.

Amazing Ingredients
• Regenerative exfoliants use AHA fruit acids from bilberry, sugar maple and citrus fruits
• Soothing and anti inflammatory aloe-rich formula with extracts of comfrey, olive oil and lemongrass
• Stimulating and purifying oils of eucalyptus, rosemary, peppermint and lavender

Tips for Healthy Scalp and Hair

Avoid using silicones which attach to hair and scalp and cause build up. Cut down on sugar - unhealthy bacteria go partying on this. Protein in your diet is essential for maintaining healthy scalp and hair. Vitamin A and C, help circulate Oxygen to the scalp. Iron, zinc and folic acid are all good for scalp health.

For Oilier Scalps or Floppy Hair

    Balancing Scalp Shampoo

    Problem
Overactive scalps can produce excess sebum. This leaves hair feeling oily, flat or lifeless and can lead to seborrheic scalp conditions.

    Solution

    • Deep cleanses with citrus and plant extracts
    • Rebalances with bio-sulphur and horse chestnut
    • Improves hair strength and texture with biotin and cashmere protein

I love using hair colour. And who wouldn’t benefit from hair colour in some form? Maybe Vin Diesel, and age-appropriate of course - I'm not recommending for babies or children. But whether a subtle whisper or full on drama...

Where were you standing when you decided to adjust your hair colour? Do you stand there often?

At the first salon I worked as a junior, back in the last century, the colourists at the salon had an interesting technique for showing clients their finished results; escorting them to the ladies toilet where a single electric wall light seemed to cast a favourable glow.

Coupe Sauvage was the brief. That French term from the 1970s encapsulating all lengths of very layered, textured, vibrant styles that hinted at the sexuality of wild, rampant and raw. And growing out tint isn't always successful, most people return to having colour, but Julie's was a rare case where the...
