In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Fringes

Some clients have never had a fringe and yet others wouldn't be without one. But most people like to experiment and fringes can make a dramatic difference to your look, whether long 'curtains-bangs' or all the way up to 'suicide-fringe'.

Sam above, has fine hair and the layers and fringe give fullness and a softer effect to her look. The fringe is left long to eye level and shaped around cheekbones. Clever placing of highlights by our talented colourist Bernadett also enhances the sense of depth and dimension, making the whole effect brighter and more interesting.

Aly has thick healthy long-layered hair that she looks after with regular LifeSaver Treatments. It means she can go much longer between haircuts as the ends don't thin down and dry out so soon. Her fringe today was just for a change along with a reshape of the layers and a natural semi-permanent glossing to give richness to the colour. As you can see, she can't wait to get her hands on it.

Zanne already had a fringe which was very uneven, coming down to a long point at the bridge of the nose (never a good idea) and crowding too much around her eyes, which can give the opposite effect to an eye-lift. So for Zanne, today's work was more about correcting and refining the fringe she had.

Client's often say to me that I seem to cut one hair at a time around the fringe. It's not quite to that degree but each hair does play its part and the greater level of precision is essential in this area.

Condition

All hair is easier to manage when its in good condition. Regular LifeSaver Treatments will keep hair looking its best, make styling simpler and the look last longer.

Styling

Fringes can require a little more styling upkeep if there are strong kinks around the hairline. Erratic shifts in root direction on the hairline (cowlicks etc) need to be taken out from wet with a dryer and combing from side to side. A few strokes with a large round brush can then give lift and finish. Check out our YouTube channel for tutorials on this.

Occasionally I step out of my lane into savoury, though I doubt Greggs will be quaking with their 2.5 million sales a week. These freshly made sausage rolls with puff pastry and artisanal fillings make for a more delicious treat than mass produced and packaged versions.

I love using hair colour. And who wouldn’t benefit from hair colour in some form? Maybe Vin Diesel, and age-appropriate of course - I'm not recommending for babies or children. But whether a subtle whisper or full on drama...

Where were you standing when you decided to adjust your hair colour? Do you stand there often?

At the first salon I worked as a junior, back in the last century, the colourists at the salon had an interesting technique for showing clients their finished results; escorting them to the ladies toilet where a single electric wall light seemed to cast a favourable glow.
