In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Poppy Towers

I first met Poppy in the salon this month for a makeover. Yet when Poppy turned up, I liked her hair as it was. But then Poppy explained, and I understood. She’d washed her hair and applied our LifeSaver UV before she left the house. She arrived with it naturally dried in soft beachy waves.

Poppy showed me this picture (above left) taken in July 2021 before she started using LifeSaver Treatments. She'd been using our products for 18 months before this visit, and her hair had changed from the thin, brittle and broken you can see in this picture to soft, shiny and thick today.

Poppy’s 18-month LifeSaver journey could make a blonde version of our famous before and after image above

LifeSaver UV is so versatile and it’s the ‘go-to’ product for my own hair.

So Poppy's hair wasn't the usual ‘before’ horrors. Some lumps were missing from the old haircut on the left and the roots ready for colour, but we could deal with that.

Poppy wanted to get her hair longer and thicker, so we had a clear plan for cut, colour and aftercare. And that started now by giving a much better layered shape which instantly elongated and revitalised the hair.

She liked being a bright blonde and we showed her how keeping more contrast from her natural base could give a brighter look with more dimension and a much healthier way to colour hair.

Our colour expert Bernadett used a combination of techniques including balayage and different highlights to achieve a brighter blonde look while maintaining good condition and natural shine. Minimal bleach was used in the process.

“I love my new hair and I’m a true fan of all the Michael Van Clarke products I’ve used – they’ve really helped change the texture and quality of my hair for the better!” - Poppy Towers

We washed with Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Cashmere Protein UV Protective ConditionerA little LifeSaver UV calms and defines the waves and treats the hair at the same time. We used a little Volumising Mousse to enhance thickness and texture whilst stylist lightly with our Round Styling Brush.

For a long time, the ‘Butterfly’ haircut reigned as the most requested style. But in 2025 and the early months of 2026, ‘Bobs’ took over, and we loved seeing Lily Collins, Ji-young Yoo and Kathy Bates embrace different versions of the trend. From French bobs to blunt cuts and box bobs, each of them wore the style beautifully.

Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?
Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?

Healthy hair is essentially 97% protein and 3% water. The protein provides the structural strength, the water gives flexibility and shine. Hair cannot be overloaded with protein but it can become so dehydrated with heat styling, colouring, and siliconised hair products that you end up losing the 3% water of fresh root hair, and then what is left of the shrunken hair towards the ends is 100% protein and too porous to hold moisture.
