In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Rubi

What do you have to do to get noticed? Rubi had a clear idea what she wanted. A crisper looking Bob. But when she later posted a reel on Instagram, a lot of the comments said they saw no difference!

That’s despite my changing the entire line by taking three inches off the back and virtually nothing off the front. And then layering the back through to give lift and movement.

Before:
The previous bobbed haircut had some shorter bits around the face but was left completely one-length at the back. A very common mistake which doesn’t adjust for the massive weight differential between back and front. This inevitably sets up an unbalanced dynamic where the hair just hangs and is pulled further towards the back by the excess weight there.

I could bore you with the kinetic and static energy at play with a hairstyle and why it takes an understanding of structural engineering to appreciate the forces at work, and the sense of spatial geometry we use but,…..Oh!….you’re asleep already. 😂

1. The haircut

We wanted a stronger classic Bob but one that would look great left naturally wavy too. Using our signature Diamond Dry Cut™ method, I carved A-Line layers above a square baseline to create a much  better free-moving shape and keep the bias of fall slightly forward.

2. Colour

Naturally dark one-length hair can look very solid, and this is where the layering opens up the style to the play of light and movement.

Rubi has fantastic quality hair and now the cut and condition are sorted you can see and feel the movement and vibrancy.

3. Condition

A key product for Rubi’s hair is LifeSaver Treatment. This a not an oil-based treatment and you cannot overuse LifeSaver®. It feeds, hydrates and strengthens hair without weighing it down and gives vitality to all hair types. The Cashmere Protein Moisturising Shampoo and Conditioner also helps soften the hair and give shine.

4. Styling

NEW Eureka Blowdry Balm is the best choice for styling Rubi’s hair. Just apply, comb through and style, or not if you like the natural look. This product eliminates frizz and defines the waves whilst protecting the hair from UV and heat damage. A large round brush helped smooth the hair for a sharper look.

For a long time, the ‘Butterfly’ haircut reigned as the most requested style. But in 2025 and the early months of 2026, ‘Bobs’ took over, and we loved seeing Lily Collins, Ji-young Yoo and Kathy Bates embrace different versions of the trend. From French bobs to blunt cuts and box bobs, each of them wore the style beautifully.

Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?
Myths & Misunderstandings - Can I over-protein my hair?

Healthy hair is essentially 97% protein and 3% water. The protein provides the structural strength, the water gives flexibility and shine. Hair cannot be overloaded with protein but it can become so dehydrated with heat styling, colouring, and siliconised hair products that you end up losing the 3% water of fresh root hair, and then what is left of the shrunken hair towards the ends is 100% protein and too porous to hold moisture.
