In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Sharon

Flat, straight and heavy. Sharon’s hair had been cut so short at the back and with no proper layering. The exaggerated long front then conspired to drag the whole look down. The very opposite of uplifting and energising which is what hair should do for the wearer.

Bits were chopped out of this one length A-Line Bob but that’s NOT layering and Sharon desperately needed proper layering to correct the shape and bring life back to her hair.

This is what we did…

1. Colour

We wanted to get a brighter more textured effect for Sharon to enhance the sense of depth and movement in the hair. Blonde highlights can make hair look brighter but more and more blonde can start to make the hair look flat without the contrasting tones in between. The hair was previously over-coloured at the ends and didn’t complement Sharon’s skin tone. We worked through a cooler brighter combination of highlights and broke up the line of solid colour through the ends.

2. Condition

The original haircut was extremely dry at the ends from over-processed colour and excessive heat styling. When hair becomes this dry and decayed its more difficult to manage and styles don’t last long. We gave Sharon a LifeSaver Prewash Treatment. 3. Cut

Before & After

The haircut is the most important part of your hairstyle and should do most of the work. If it’s not cut well, you will fuss more and feel less free. Sharon’s hair hung heavy around her face. The hard and heavy curtain-sides offered little softness or framing. Her A-Line one-length outline made it difficult to work and the style didn’t last.

The Diamond Dry Cut™ is my signature technique and a natural method of sculpting. We cut hair dry to see the shape evolve in much the same way as Michelangelo would approach a marble bust. I graduated the front of Sharon’s hair eliminating the overhang and layered the back to break up the bowl effect. I then softened the tips with a steep point-cut up to two inches into the hair. This changed the fall and texture of the hair giving the ends more pliability and helping it to bend more easily. Sharon’s hair can now move fluidly and fall effortlessly back into place, or stay tucked behind the ears.

4. Styling

With a great cut, colour and better condition you get to choose from lots of style options. Here we took Sharon through two easy to achieve looks.

Prep


For Sharon's hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner. 

Styling

A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush (soft bristle) to smooth. Then a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the hair giving a little shine and texture too.
