In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Shiki

Flat hair can leave you feeling lacklustre. But it’s usually the result of a poor haircut. And if the hair is oily, the hair becomes greasy quicker when it lays so flat against the scalp. In Shiki’s case, she gave up and scraped her hair back in a ponytail.

But we have the techniques and the products to banish flat hair.

Follow what we did...

1. Cut - The haircut is the most important part of your hairstyle and should do most of the work. If it’s not cut well you will work harder and feel less confident.

Shiki’s ’s haircut was typical of the corrective work I do for new clients. Her basic one-length haircut had two big step layers hacked into the front. A lazy ten minute haircut, unfortunately so common now. Using our signature Diamond Dry Cut method, I took a shorter outline and sculpted face-framing layers through to the back. This gave a great shape even without blowdrying. We then moved onto colour.

2. Colour - Hollie our Senior Colourist, used a freehand balayage technique to create natural looking highlights, followed by a rich brunette gloss. This gave an overall sun-kissed effect with depth and texture.

3. Condition – Key products for Shiki’s hair were Scalp Balancing Shampoo to tame overactive sebaceous glands and reduce oiliness, and LifeSaver to feed and nourish through the lengths. People with oily scalp may avoid treatments thinking it will moisturise too much and make the hair heavy. LifeSaver Prewash is a not an oil-based treatment. It feeds, hydrates and strengthens without weighing hair down. You cannot overuse LifeSaver®. It will give vibrancy to all hair types.

Shiki’s finished hairstyle blends seamlessly, whilst beautifully enhancing her features. A refined, elegant look that’s simple for her to style at home.

Michael is a brilliant hairdresser and my hair looks so pretty after my cut and colour. He asked me about the issues I face with my hair, how I style it and what were my preferences. He cuts with such precision and care! Hollie suggested a subtle balayage with caramel tones. My hair looked perfect after and the experience was so relaxing!

For Shiki’s hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Scalp Balancing Shampoo and Volumising Conditioner. For styling, a little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush to give volume and style. Then finally a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the ends of the hair giving a little shine and texture too.

Gaby's Bakery - Rosh Hashana Honey Cake

If you’ve ever politely eaten auntie's dense, dry and disappointing honey cake, with a crumb like sawdust that scrapes its way past your tonsils, this may not be the treat you're naturally drawn to. But here's a recipe that delivers on the promise of what a honey cake should be. Moist, tender and flavoursome.
