In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Yvonne

Yvonne has two big advantages. Firstly she has great quality hair, and secondly, Yvonne is very capable with home-styling. But even she was getting bored with drawn-out styling to compensate for a bad haircut.

1. The Haircut

You see, like most people, Yvonne had a bog standard one-length haircut. And the excuse for layers was a shelf-layer about 5” up from the outline.

This step, and the lack of proper shaping meant too much width at the bottom, heavy excess hair, and Yvonne over-styling her hair trying to get face-framing lift. It also meant waves and curls would drop out very quickly and the ends would be thinner, drier and frizzier.

Yvonne’s haircut was typical of the corrective work I do for new clients. We wanted to inject life and movement into the hair and for this we needed a balanced shape followed by some cleverly placed colour to give a little intrigue and tonal depth to the whole effect.

Using our signature Diamond Dry Cut™ method, I took a graduated outline and sculpted face-framing layers through to the back. This gave a great effect even without blowdrying. We then moved onto colour.

2. Colour

Jodie used a combination of foils and balayage to create a warm yet bright textured effect, giving dimension and contrast to the colour. This play on tonal juxtaposition, also helps enhance a sense of movement in the hair.

3. Condition

A key product for Yvonne’s hair was LifeSaver Prewash Treatment. This a not an oil-based treatment and you cannot overuse LifeSaver®. It feeds, hydrates and strengthens hair without weighing it down and gives vibrancy to all hair types.

Used with Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner, the hair is nourished and colour-protected. In fact, nothing we’ve come across keeps colour better than this trio of hero products.

4. Styling

Using a little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse, Saori blowdried the hair smoother with body and a slight wave. Yvonne’s finished hairstyle moves and blends seamlessly and is simple for her to style at home in many different looks, as she posted the next week.

From entering the salon to leaving was just such a treat (even more so having been in lockdown for what felt like forever!) and the whole team were warm and welcoming throughout. The difference as soon as Michael had finished cutting my hair was astonishing. I’d expected to need a lot cutting off after lockdown yet the length was virtually the same but the shaping and condition looked incredible and Michael is truly a master craftsman. Jodie is a colour whizz and worked her magic to create a beautiful balayage that worked through my curls like a dream. The lunch and service from the in-house Deli just really topped the whole wonderful experience off. Thank you so much Michael and the team for a fabulous day, my hair has never been better and I absolutely love it xx “-Yvonne

For Yvonne's hair we used LifeSaver Prewash Treatment to rehydrate, then Cashmere Protein UV Protective Shampoo and Conditioner. A little Thicker Quicker blowdry spray and Volumising Mousse helped give body and control. We used the Large Round Brush to give body and style. Then finally a little Ten Second Transformation to feed and smooth the ends of the hair giving a little shine and texture too.

Coupe Sauvage was the brief. That French term from the 1970s encapsulating all lengths of very layered, textured, vibrant styles that hinted at the sexuality of wild, rampant and raw. And growing out tint isn't always successful, most people return to having colour, but Julie's was a rare case where the...
