Berni's Colour Edit: Why Healthy, Glossy Hair Is This Year's Biggest Trend

If you’ve been scrolling through Instagram or TikTok lately, you’ve probably noticed a major shift in the hair world. The era of over-bleached, high-contrast, dry-looking hair is officially behind us. This year, the biggest celebrity hair trend isn't actually a specific colour, it’s health and high-gloss shine, something we excel at in salon!

Whether celebrities are rocking creamy "Milk Tea" blondes or rich "Espresso" brunettes, there is one common denominator: their hair looks incredibly reflective, thick, and healthy. I believe you shouldn't have to sacrifice the integrity of your hair to get a trendsetting shade.

Personally I’m loving Sydney Sweeney’s soft-suede blonde at the moment. It’s low maintenance and it’s been gently lightened to save the mid-lengths and the ends of your hair. In the past, being blonde meant frequent, harsh bleach touch-ups right to the scalp. This year, it’s all about "Suede Blonde" and soft, creamy champagne tones. These looks utilise a subtle root smudge or shadow. By leaving your natural root intact or using a gentle, demi-permanent gloss at the base, we eliminate harsh regrowth lines. This means you can stretch the time between highlight appointments, saving your mid-lengths and ends from unnecessary chemical overlap and breakage.

Hailey Bieber’s and Selena Gomez’s glossy brunettes also inspire the hair colour world this season. Their brunettes are monochromatic, deep, and look almost like liquid glass. Instead of traditional stripy highlights, we are using tone-on-tone "micro-shading" to add dimension. Brunette shades are inherently healthier for the hair because they involve depositing colour rather than stripping it away. We love finishing these shades with a ‘Gloss & Glow’ treatment that we offer in salon for a high shine finish. This seals the hair cuticle flat, locking in moisture and creates a mirror-like surface that reflects light beautifully.

Next time you’re in our chair, tell us you want to focus on "low-maintenance luxury". Ask for a ‘Gloss & Glow’ high shine glaze to give your blonde, brunette, copper or silver hair the extra shine it deserves and let's discuss adding a bond-building strengthening treatment to your service.

How to keep the shine alive at home:

Your salon appointment is only half the battle. To keep that celebrity-level gloss until your next visit, here are three non-negotiables:

1. Lower the Heat:
High heat literally cooks the moisture out of your hair and dulls your colour.

Always use the Eureka Blowdry Balm and turn your hot tools down to 360°F (180°C) or lower. The low-heat rules also apply to the temperature of your shower water. Lower the water temperature slightly for colour and shine longevity.

2. Switch to Colour-Safe, Hydrating Care:
Professional, silicone free shampoos and conditioners aren't just a luxury, they are insurance for your hair colour. They gently cleanse without coating your hair with liquid plastic particles that make your colour look artificial and over time causes breakage.

I recommend all my clients use the UV Protective Cashmere Protein Shampoo and Conditioner to strengthen and protect the hair colour until their next appointment.

3. Weekly deep conditioning:
Use one the LifeSaver Pre-wash Treatments at least once a week or every other wash to repair, hydrate and strengthen your hair from the inside out. Hydrated hair will reflect the colour more vibrantly.

4. Think SPF for hair:
Lastly but most importantly everyone should use UV Protection for their hair this summer season. Just as we apply SPF for our skin, our hair needs protection against the sun. The Van Clarke LifeSaver Sun leave-in Styling Treatment will be your hero on holidays this summer.

After washing your hair apply LifeSaver Sun all over, comb through and style as normal. It will protect both colour and condition while under the UV rays. Be that in the city or on holiday.

Thanks so much Berni.
