HELP! I Have Split Ends

HELP! I Have Split Ends

Those fuzzy white dots really spoil the look. But if it’s any consolation they’re even worse under the microscope.

Look, a supple healthy hair shaft and a magnified damaged split end!

But why do we get split ends and how do we prevent them?
New hair is made up of 97% protein and 3% water. Split ends are the result of continual dehydration. The hair loses moisture so the protein structure becomes fragile and breaks down a little, then it cannot hold as much water, so the protein structure breaks down a little more, etc. The hair thins down and becomes so brittle and dry that eventually the ends just crack apart. This is a split end. You cannot repair it, only cut it off and look after the new hair differently so it doesn’t dry out and split again.

Hair that’s dry enough to split is also likely to have a lot of breakage. This is where the hair snaps off somewhere along the hairshaft. It’s not unusual to see poorly cared for hair where 95% doesn’t reach the last third of the hair style. Like the picture on the left below.

So what to do?
Our lifestyles take a lot out of hair. We need to give back. The most effective product and the easiest to use is LifeSaver Prewash Treatment. Following the system brings natural health and fullness back to the hair.

Along with that we can look at what abuse the hair is suffering.

How it’s cutThe right haircut will eliminate up to 95% of styling hassle and hair harm.

How it’s coloured – I see too many new clients with hair over-coloured to less effect.

How it’s heat dried – The right prep and techniques cuts drying time by up to 90%

What products are usedMost products are too harsh and age hair rapidly.

How it’s protected in winter – Cold and dry outside, hot and dry inside. Winter air can savage hair condition.

How it’s sun protected Sun is a killer for hair. A hat or LifeSaver UV Protection is so easy.

How is it protected when swimming – LifeSaver UV and proper after swim care, does away with dry faded or green tinged hair.

Minimise the bad stuff. Maximise the good stuff and you’ll be amazed at the transformation in the first few months alone. That’s what we do. I’ve done this for over 40 years. And I’m still passionate about giving people their best hair back because I know it’s so transformational; to your look, your confidence, and your self-esteem. It’s not called ‘A Bad Hair Day’ for nothing.

It matters to me how great your own hair can be naturally. I’m sure it matters to you too.

A model’s life is tough on hair. Our industry problem is that some hairdressers only care about today – once you’re home it’s your problem. It’s bad enough in salons with stylists and colourists only concerned with impressing you now.

Coupe Sauvage was the brief. That French term from the 1970s encapsulating all lengths of very layered, textured, vibrant styles that hinted at the sexuality of wild, rampant and raw. And growing out tint isn't always successful, most people return to having colour, but Julie's was a rare case where the...
