Gaby's Bakery - Butterfinger Bars - Gluten Free

Gaby's Bakery - Butterfinger Bars - Gluten Free

April 04, 2023

This simple recipe only takes fifteen minutes to make, and gives you a healthier version of a popular American sweet. I love the range of textures and tastes that play on the taste buds from the firm to then creamy chocolate, the crispy cornflake and chewy peanut butter.

In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Kazz

In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Kazz

March 18, 2023

I don’t normally start by showing the back. But the breakage and damage was so bad that the entire top portion at the back had snapped off. Kazz had been paying a lot for hair colouring and for regular Olaplex treatments over the years. Yet her extremely damaged hair quality was something I regularly see. Unnecessarily weak thin broken hair, and dull colour.

Gaby's Bakery - Apple, Banana & Maple Tray Bake

Gaby's Bakery - Apple, Banana & Maple Tray Bake

March 16, 2023

Tray bakes are great because they’re usually simple to make, create an abundance of treats for the effort put in and leave less washing up. I prefer to bring sweetness into these recipes from fruits where I can, and this one has a little added coconut sugar.

In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Francesca

March 11, 2023

I love long hair. But sometimes it’s better to cut it back and start again fresh. Especially when the ends have suffered serious over-processing of colour on multiple occasions. And it’s great to have a change too.

Gaby's Bakery - Upside-down Blood Orange Cake

Gaby's Bakery - Upside-down Blood Orange Cake

March 10, 2023

These are the last months of plentiful blood oranges which go to make this recipe such a mouth-watering treat.

The fruit has crimson or blood coloured flesh which comes from the anthocyanins, a family of polyphenols. The red colour comes when the fruit develops with low overnight temperatures as in the Mediterranean winters, so peak season is February to April.

Vermeer - Catch it if You Can

Vermeer - Catch it if You Can

March 04, 2023

Getting 80% of Vermeer’s known works under one roof is quite an achievement; the 20% refuseniks mostly citing the fragility of their treasures whose travelling days were over. It’s unlikely to happen again in my lifetime if ever, so off we went to the city of space-cakes and tulips to get close to the Old Masters’ work, an artist and era that’s captivated me from a young age.

In the Chair - Real People Real Hair - Marlenka

March 03, 2023

Flat oily hair? It could be your haircut. Marlenka always struggled to get any life in her hair. She said it always felt and looked oily. I explained just how the haircut wasn’t helping.

What the Heck is Work/Life Balance?

What the Heck is Work/Life Balance?

February 25, 2023

Have you noticed more and more negative baggage being hung off the word ‘work’?

I’ve never understood the term work/life balance myself. Is work not part of my life? Perhaps the term was coined by someone brain-dead while at work. And I get that many people hate their work. I feel sorry for them, yet for many a change in attitude and input could alter perceptions.

Frizz Free Hair

Frizz Free Hair

February 24, 2023

It’s been a long time since the first Brazilian Blowdry products were being used. The few people that supplied these unbranded products here in the late 1990s worked in the shadows like drug dealers distributing hooch from the cottage industry of stills in the jungle and favelas.

Michael's Kitchen Takeover - Fasolakia

February 18, 2023

Half the time, there’s a cake-fest going on in our kitchen so Gaby needed relocating temporarily. Banksy’s inspiration was timely 😀.

Some classic recipes just go on and on. And this is a favourite of adults and kids at our full-house dinners.

If I have our apprentices up for after work, they’ll often say, “Don’t bother asking, just do the chicken and beans!” A lamb cutlets version was
